ELIAS OF "CUSTOMS FOR THE KID" WINS "CUSTOM ACTION FIGURE ARTIST OF THE YEAR" @ TOY NEWS INTERNATIONAL's 2018 TOY AWARDS

"I have to say, the competition was fierce, and the battle was intense, but thanks to all of you, I was able to walk away with a different view of myself than I had before the competition.  I have been customizing for over eight years now, since I was just a little boy, and this unexpected recognition is a true testament to all the effort I put in to become the artist that I am today. When I first was nominated for the award, I thought to myself how could I possibly win against all these talented artists?  Now, having won, I realized I had everything I needed.  If it hadn't been for the extremely talented artists who have passed down their knowledge, encouragement, and support over the course of my training, I wouldn't be where I am today.  Because I was one of the youngest artists in the community, I always wanted to be just as good as the ones I considered "The Masters".  While everybody knows no one's journey is ever complete, I am certainly more confident in my skills now because of all your support.  I have read all of your comments across social media boards and forums, and I found them all very moving.  Especially, those of you who took the time to vote."  - Elias

Elias of "Customs for the Kid" Up for "Custom Action Figure Artist of the Year" in Toy News International's 2018 Toy Awards

The Final Round of voting is currently going now for Toy News International's 2018 Toy Awards and Elias is in the running for "Custom Action Figure Artist of the Year".  While he took first place in Round One of voting, Elias is still up against the last two action figure customizers for the award. The winner of the award will be receiving an actual physical award which we will be handed out during New York Toy Fair in February 2019.  Below is a video gallery of Elias' custom action figure art for those interested. Needless to say, it would be a huge honor to be awarded the prize.

"CUSTOMS FOR THE KID" 2018 - YEAR IN REVIEW

A rather anemic year over at "Customs for the Kid" compared to previous years here at the blog. Where we formerly made a custom action figure once a week, this year we only had time to make sixteen figures in total. The less prolific output could be due to the incredible amount of work that went into "some" of these customs. Dad didn't put out as many customs as one would expect, and he was really excited to see me make half of the customs produced at the blog this year!

We had the honor of being interviewed a few times this year as well. Darth Daddy got interviewed by ChannelStarWars.com, and later in the year Customs for the Kid was interviewed by both MightyGoods.com and Fantha Tracks.

We also saw the return of our YouTube show, "Customizing The Clone Wars" this year. Due to our host Chad Peak of Peak-OB1 Custom Creations experiencing a tragic work related eye injury in August of 2017, we took a prolonged hiatus from the show that lasted about a year, but this Fall we came back firing on all cylinders. We have already posted up 4 new episodes so if you weren't aware, start watching!

The coolest development for me this year has been my inclusion in the running for "Action Figure Customizer of the Year" in the Toy News International 2018 Toy Awards. Round One of voting is currently active. I'm holding down the fort so far representing Star Wars customizers, but the competition is pretty fierce so fingers crossed. Any help our readers can offer would be greatly appreciated. You can register and vote here, and I thank you all in advance for your support! - Elias

CUSTOMS FOR THE KID - THE STAR WARS ROOM

For die hard action figure collectors, there is either a small corner in the home that pays homage to the plastic, or an all-out display room devoted it. The most extreme can coat every wall in their homes with their collection. My dad has tried his best to keep the display focused to just my room, but he already lost that battle. Now Dad just tries to keep my Star Wars collection out of his side of the home. Anyhow, that is a conversation for another time.

This is just a peak at my Star Wars collection. Well, my bedroom to be exact.  The last time we did a video of my room was five years ago so an update was warranted.  A LOT has changed. Dad shot some footage of it to test a camera light he had and gave me the raw footage. I am not sure when I am going to have time to edit it into something more polished, so I figured I'd just share what Dad filmed that day with our readers.

I hope you enjoy. If there is something that looks like a custom in the room, that you have never seen before, and you want to know more about the particular piece, there is a good chance it is featured on our Customizer Spotlight page, or it could be something that we made here at home which you get information on by clicking the photo of the custom we made located in our Action Figure Index and learn about more about how each figure was made.
